Sunset Island - Updated

Updated July. 25. 2020

It’s that time once again!

I remember playing NBA 2K17 and playing on the MyPark feature. In that mode you had to choose between three factions you wanted to join; the Old Town Flyers, Sunset Beach Ballers, and Rivet City Rough Riders. Personally, I love beach settings so, I chose the Sunset Beach Ballers.

From the time of this blog, that was 2-3 years ago, consequently, the courts aren’t on the newer versions of the game anymore (RIP). However, imaginations are not out of style…let’s try to create our own Sunset Beach Ballers court. As I have done with my previous project, I just booted up SketchUp and began exporting my thoughts down on the PC.

I wanted to have the courts become an island off to itself. Literally, you walk upon a long walkway over the ocean to gain access to the island of courts. On the island, ballers will be able to, of course, play basketball with all their buddies, have a seat, spectate, eat, conversate and etc. But there is also a Helipad on the island too, for VIPs.

The basketball courts themselves bear the Sunset Ballers iconic logo, structural glass floor slabs over water and the baselines are lit by waterproof LEDs. Think Miami Vice vibes meet NBA 2K fantasy, the ocean surrounding the players.

Maybe one day 2K will think further outside the lines and re-release these iconic courts and stretch the imaginations of its players. In that same vein, I hope the imagery I’ve created pulls you into my thought process.

Feedback is always welcomed.

Thanks!

Desert Oasis

I randomly had a desire to design a destination in the desert, somewhere remote, but comfortable.

I searched websites like Architizer, ArchDaily, and etc for inspiration and I found several images of actual constructed buildings and various concepts but the final thought came to my mind and I just booted up Sketchup and began putting my thoughts down on the PC. From Sketchup to Lumion, the vision came to life.

The building serves as a place for shade and relaxation from the desert sun, but also welcomes going outside to sit on the surrounding deck to reflect. Reflection is a two fold option. One could take a dip in the infinity pool or simply observe the reflection of the building and landscape from afar.

The glass waves in and out of the exterior to create insets under the green roof. <Hmmm, Green Roof in the desert> It’s a fantasy, we can do whatever we want. No budget, No Limits. Only imagination.

I have to say, I’m thoroughly impressed with the final outcome. It usually takes me several attempts to get to a place where I feel everything is where it needs to be…or sometimes I just entirely just miss the mark, but this brainstorm was different.

My ‘Desert Oasis’ looked better than what I envisioned in my mind. Even my wife was impressed with the imagery I showed her. Believe me when I say this, my wife is the ultimate Design Critic, despite her being in non-design background, she knows what looks good and works.

Here is the fruit of my labor. I’m loving how it turned out. Let me know what you think in the comment section below.

Thanks!
